The container lifting support is a mechanical device designed to lift and stabilize standardized shipping containers, compliant with the ISO 1161 standard. It subsequently allows for the installation of container wheels designed to fit into the corners.
Function
It allows one side or corner of a container to be lifted in order to facilitate loading, unloading, maintenance, or precise positioning operations. Used in pairs or in groups of four, these supports bear the total weight of the container. It is possible to lift one side (usually the width), brace it, and then proceed to lift the other side later.
Lifting Capacity
Each unit has a maximum lifting capacity of 4.5 tons (4,500 kg), resulting in a total of 13.5 tons (13,500 kg) for a set of four supports (after applying a safety factor). We recommend lifting empty containers to facilitate operator intervention. For example, lifting an empty 40-foot container requires a constant force of 15 kg on the crank. This force allows for lifting approximately 1 ton per corner; thus, it must be doubled to lift 2 tons per corner. The maximum static load is 6 tons per unit multiplied by 3 points without risk of deformation.
The use of this device is limited to containers weighing less than 18 tons in static conditions and 13.5 tons in dynamic conditions (when lifting). We disclaim any responsibility in case of overload, as it may cause major mechanical failures and serious bodily harm.
Compatibility with ISO 1161 Corners
The support is specifically designed to securely attach to ISO 1161 corners, which are standardized anchor points present at all eight corners of each shipping container. This system ensures a safe and perfectly stable connection.
Lifting Mechanism
The mechanism is manual and operated by a crank. The rotation drives two gears allowing the extension or retraction of the upper part. The standard size of ISO corners (99% of containers) places the center of the side opening 68 mm off the ground. Our supports can lower down to 58 mm, leaving a margin of 10 mm. This reduced ground clearance allows the device to lock in place even if the container has slightly sunk into the ground over time (as with asphalt, for example). You will find the detailed plan of ISO corners in the visuals of the article.
Construction and Materials
Made from high-strength steel, these supports ensure maximum durability. The welds are reinforced, with a thickness of 12 mm for the plate and the gussets.
Support Base
The base of 220 x 220 mm is designed to provide optimal stability on a flat and stabilized surface.
Lifting Height and Compatibility of Wheels
The lifting stroke extends from 0 to 390 mm, allowing for the installation of certain models of our wheels for containers that you will find in the related products at the bottom of the page, particularly those with a diameter of 150 mm with side lock screw fittings. Note: with the side lock system wheels, it is necessary to remove the support beforehand to free up the interior space of the corner. For any questions, feel free to contact our sales department or our design office.
Usage
These supports provide a flexible and cost-effective solution for handling containers in port terminals, storage areas, or construction sites, without resorting to heavy equipment (cranes, forklifts). Safety Recommendation: We strongly recommend inserting chocks (such as railway ties) to secure the entire setup during operation.
